Identification and characterization of a RAPD-PCR marker for distinguishing Asian and North American gypsy moths.
The recent introduction of the Asian gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar L.) into North America has necessitated the development of genetic markers to distinguish Asian moths from the established North American population, which originated in Europe. We used RAPD-PCR to identify a DNA length polymorphism that is diagnostic for the two moth strains. The polymorphism maps to an autosomal locus with codo...

N ORTH American blastomycosis (Gilchrist’s disease) is a granulomatous, infectious disease caused by the fungus, Blastomyces dermatitidis (Gilchrist and Stokes, 1898). The malady, in its cutaneous form, was first described by Gilchrist’ in 1894. A few years later, together with Stokes, he was able to isolate and culture the causative organism which he designated as B. dermatitibis.23 The first ...

Globalization induces the transport sector and supply chains to adapt to new functional and operational considerations. This is particularly the case for North America because of the geographical scale and scope of its production, distribution and consumption activities (Brooks, 2008; Rodrigue and Hesse, 2007). In a context where transport technology such as containerization has been a powerful...

Morphological and molecular characteristics support the recognition of a welldefined taxonomic group within the Entolomataceae. The distinctive basidiospore form and a three locus DNA analysis separate the species that share these characteristics from other species of Entoloma s. l. We propose here a new genus, Entocybe, to accommodate these taxa.
